“It was unfortunate. That was essentially an exchange with our fans seated near me,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “Present was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was brimming with excitement for the Dallas team.”
He further emphasized that the signal was completely accidental, happening amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply put up the wrong finger,” he noted. “The action was inadvertently performed. This is sincere. Should you call it accidental, you can. However, it got corrected pretty quick.”

This is not the first time an NFL owner has been penalized for misconduct. Previous cases include:
- Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at fans in early 2024.
